Quick Start

This guide walks you through creating a project, generating a wind field, and running a simulation using the bundled IEA 15MW Monopile reference turbine.

1. Create a project

1. Launch FlowUrja Studio.
2. Click New Project in the welcome screen.
3. Give your project a name and choose a working directory.
4. Under Model, select IEA 15MW Monopile from the dropdown.

FlowUrja Studio copies all required input files into your working directory.

2. Generate a wind field

1. In the sidebar, click TurbSim under Modules.
2. Set your desired wind parameters:
   • Wind speed: 12 m/s
   • Turbulence class: A
   • IEC standard: IEC Kaimal (IECKAI)
3. Click Run TurbSim.

The console panel at the bottom streams TurbSim output in real time. A .bts binary wind file is written to your project directory when complete.

3. Run a simulation

1. Click OpenFAST in the sidebar.
2. On the Dashboard tab, confirm:
   • Wind Type is set to TurbSim BTS
   • The BTS file path points to the wind field you just generated
3. Set TMax to 60 seconds for a quick test.
4. Click Run OpenFAST.

4. View results

1. Click Results in the sidebar.
2. Click Scan Folder and select your project’s results/ directory.
3. Select channels to plot (e.g. RotSpeed, GenPwr, TwrBsMyt).
